Actors Shahid Kapoor and Farhan Akhtar will return as the hosts for 17th edition of International Indian Film Academy (IIFA) Awards in Madrid, Spain. They will be in their ‘Raju and Pappu’ avatar on stage.

IIFA Weekend and Awards are all set to take place in Madrid this year from June 23-26.

Farhan says he can’t wait to share the stage with Shahid, with whom he shares a great rapport and has hosted the 13th as well as 15th IIFA Awards in Singapore and Tampa Bay, respectively.

Sanjay Dutt is gearing up for his first film after being released from jail. The actor has been sweating it out as a part of his prep for Siddharth Anand’s next.

His character in the action flick requires him to perform commando-style stunts and the actor has been training in martial arts on the ground floor of his Pali Hill home.

However, he seems to want to keep those rigorous sessions low-key. Dutt has now covered the boundary of his house with green cloth after a snap of him boxing recently did the rounds.

But, when he was recently clicked by the paparazzi in his boxing gloves, he got upset and decided to cover the training area so that such an episode is not repeated.

A source close to Sanjay Dutt confirms the story, adding, “He has been training at his building’s gym which has grabbed the attention of his fans and passersby, who tend to crowd the place. So, he has covered the area to avoid the disturbance.”

The actor wants to beat prying eyes peering into his training enclosure.

The film is the Hindi remake of Sylvester Stallone’s Rambo and involves some hardcore action for which the actor has been training religiously with Master Shifu Kanishka Sharma.

The actor’s prep will continue for another month after which the film will go on floors.

Yes, that’s true. Co-incidentally Salman Khan starrer Sultan and Aamir Khan’s December release, both revolve around the wrestling world. If this was any less, we recently learnt a shocking thing that Sultan‘s first draft was named Dangal.

According to a report on Bollywoodlife, the director Ali Abbas Zafar mentions that since in Haryana, the wrestling matches held locally are called ‘Dangal’, he found the name fitting enough for the film.

Prominent film world personalities paid their respects to producer-trade analyst Vikas Mohan, who passed away on Tuesday and offered condolences to his family members at his funeral.

Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan, Riteish Deshmukh, Himesh Reshammiya, Sonu Sood, Jackky Bhagnani, Kartik Aaryan, Arjan Bajwa, Omkar Kapoor, Kamaal Rashid Khan, Nikhil Dwivedi were some of those present at the crematorium in Juhu.

Vikas Mohan had suffered a heart attack on late Monday evening and was admitted to the CritiCare Hospital in Andheri, where he passed away on Tuesday morning.

Director Anurag Kashyap says that he loves his former mentor Ram Gopal Varma more than Varma does.

At the trailer launch of his film Veerappan, Varma had said that he loved Kashyap but Kashyap hated him. Asked about it at a special screening of Kannada film Thithi, Kashyap said: “Oh! That he thinks. I love him as much as he loves me. I actually love him more.”

Varma had also said that there was no cold war between them, but it was always a “hot war” and that Kashyap hated all of his films but he liked some of his work.

Kashyap had begun his journey in the film industry as a writer on Varma’s films such as Shool, Kaun, and Satya. The duo then fell out and then exchanged some taunts at each other like Kashyap on Karan Johar’s show Koffee with Karan or when Varma mocked Kashyap after the debacle of Bombay Velvet.

As a member of the production house Phantom Productions, Kashyap is one of the producers of the film Udta Punjab which has been apparently banned by the censor board for excessive use of expletives.

After clarifying in a tweet that it was not banned, he said: “You (media) have created the controversy, you tell me the solution. You declared the film ‘banned’, neither was the film banned nor did anything else happen. You all don’t even know what has happened.

About always being at loggerheads with the board, Kashyap said: “This is not my film, this is Abhishek Chaubey’s film; I’m just one of the many producers in the film. The films that I have directed have been at loggerheads with the censor board, not the ones that I have produced.”

Akshay: Housefull 3’s Success Will Motivate Us For Housefull 4 & 5

Superstar Akshay Kumar feels that a film should be completed in 30-60 days, and is surprised with filmmakers taking 300-400 days for the purpose.

At the trailer launch of his upcoming comedy Housefull 3, Akshay, asked how he manages to regularly do 3-4 films a year, said, “It is not rocket science, it is very easy, you just keep on working. I don’t think one film should take more than 60 days. I finished ‘Housefull 3‘ in 38 days.”

“Everyone comes on time, we work hard. I work for eight hours and it was very fast. I had read that they made the film, ‘Mission Impossible’ in 52 days. I don’t know how we take about 300 days and 400 days. Films are completed in 30-60 days, maximum you take 70 days, how much shooting will you do?”

Akshay had four releases last year, and Housefull 3 will be his second release of 2016 after Airlift. He will have another film, Rustom releasing this year.

Akshay added: “My shooting days were 38 days, but it took 40 days to make the trailer because they (makers) couldn’t understand how to show in two and half minutes everything about it’s storyline. It was very difficult for them, I remember so many times they showed us, but nothing was working out.”

About the franchise completing a hat-trick, Akshay said: “We’ll come to know if it’s a hat-trick… it would be good if people like our third attempt with ‘Housefull 3‘, because then it serves as motivation for fourth and fifth films. We will be looking forward to see how the business is, we keep our fingers crossed so that everything goes well.”

Housefull 3 has been directed by Farhad-Sajid, who have replaced Sajid Khan.

According to a report in Times Of India, the film will be shot across various locations which mainly include Punjab and London. Also one of the possible locations is Budapest. Imtiaz will be traveling to Budapest and a few other cities across Europe.

The film is expected to hit the theaters by mid 2017.

Will Salman Khan Sign Ode To My Father’s Hindi Remake?

As per latest reports, Salman Khan is likely to star in the remake of the Korean film Ode to My Father, which will be directed by Rajkumar Santoshi.

After completing Sultan, Salman has two films in the pipeline to shoot, of which one is Kabir Khan’s directorial which will be produced by Salman himself and the other one is Rajkumar Santoshi’s flick which will be produced by Salman’s brother-in-law Atul Agnihotri. According to a source, which is close to the film, Atul Agnihotri has bought the official remake rights of Ode to My Father and Salman has liked this film, however Rajkumar Santoshi has also narrated his own script which too has been approved by Salman Khan.

Khan has to now decide which one to choose between these two projects. Post Sultan, Salman will start shooting for Kabir Khan’s project and after competing that he will start working on Santoshi’s film in November-December this year.

Fan’s 2nd Weekend Box Office Business: Continues To Drop

Looks like, it will be difficult to convince either of the duo to push their dates ahead and hence Shah Rukh has still kept the decision on hold. The problem is that all the holiday slots have already been booked. Christmas was the only other option this year, but that too has been booked by Aamir Khan’s Dangal.

The Fan star is hoping to have a solo release for Raees so as to make a good collection. In fact, a lot of other filmmakers are still waiting to announce their film release dates, since they don’t want to clash with SRK’s Raees.

With no holiday slots remaining this year, it seems Raees will take a 2017 January release.

SRK Keen To Make Another Film Like Ra.One

Bollywood superstar Shah Rukh Khan says that he is “adamant and stubborn” about making another film like the 2011 science fiction superhero film Ra.One.

Directed by Anubhav Sinha, Ra.One featured Shah Rukh as scientist Shekhar Subramanium and humanoid robot G.One. The film also starred Kareena Kapoor Khan and Arjun Rampal.

Despite being backed by SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment banner, the film was a major let down at the box office and received mostly negative reviews from critics.

However, the Chennai Express star says he will “give another shot” to a film like Ra.One.

Asked whether he will make another superhero film yet again post “Ra.One”, Shah Rukh told IANS: “I would like to give another shot at ‘Ra.One‘. I hope I am not too old to do it because I thought as a team it was a step forward in film making.

“Lot of people may not think so, but I know filmmaking and perhaps it (‘Ra.One‘) didn’t go well, so I would like to give it another shot to win the hearts.

Shah Rukh said that though there is no storyline as such in his mind, but “we have vfx for sure”.

“Since I am adamant and stubborn I will make another ‘Ra.One‘ for sure,” he said.

“It will be interesting to make one but at this point of time we don’t have any story. ‘Ra.One‘ didn’t go to the level that I wanted it to, but films like ‘Krrish‘ and all encourages you,” he added.

Shah Rukh hopes to do something like “Spider Man” in India.

“If we can get a good mix and blow your mind alike when you see a ‘Spider Man‘ you are like wow. I hope we can do something like that in India. I will give it a shot,” he added.

Shah Rukh can currently be seen in “Fan”, which released on April 15.

Riteish Deshmukh Donates Rs.25 Lakhs For Drought Relief In Latur

Actor Riteish Deshmukh has donated Rs.25 lakh to ‘Jalyukta Latur’ as his contribution towards drought relief during his recent visit to his hometown Latur.

Jalyukta Latur is an initiative started by people’s participation to make Latur water sufficient. They have taken up work of desilting the Manjira river which provides water to the area.

The work involved includes deepening and widening up the site to 80 metres across an 18 km stretch. This will help contain the rain water and it will be made available throughout the year.

The “Ek Villain” star visited the site and was impressed by the work done by ‘Jalyukta Latur’ and decided to contribute towards this cause, read a statement.

One of the visitors on site even asked him if he would like to be the face of this campaign. To this, Riteish readily agreed to extend his support.

Looking around today’s morning occupancy, Rocky Handsome has opened 2nd best after Airlift, around 25-30% opening. But in many multiplexes across the country Batman V Superman has opened better than Rocky Handsome and has taken the excellent opening of 50-55%.

Rocky Handsome is targeted towards single screens and small centers, where it can perform better than Batman V Superman. Both the films are getting good advantage due to a Good Friday Weekend.

Rocky Handsome: Would A Good Friday Weekend Prove Great For The Film?

John Abraham’s action-thriller Rocky Handsome, which is set to hit the screens this Good Friday, has created a good amount of buzz, all thanks to its raw action sequences and breathtaking stunts.

While films like 2 States and Housefull 2, which released during Good Friday weekend in their respective years turned out to be a super hit at the Box Office, Ajay Devgn’s Himmatwala, which was released in the Good Friday weekend of 2013, turned out to be a huge disaster.

Detective Byomkesh Bakshyi which released last year on Good Friday, made an average business at the Box Office, due to its clash with Hollywood flick Furious 7.

Rocky Handsome is releasing on 25th March (Good Friday) and will clash with the highly anticipated Hollywood flick Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice.

Box Office: Kapoor And Sons Is A BIG Winner, Teraa Surroor Gets A Decent Business

Kapoor And Sons has set new records for 2016. After a controlled release which saw traction primarily at major multiplexes of big cities, the Shakun Batra directed flick did well with its target audience.

The film earned around 6.65 crore more on Thursday and with this, the collections now stand around the 47 crore mark. These are very good numbers for a film which had seen 6.85 crore coming on its Day One. Ever since then, the collections have only escalated during the weekend, and then held on very well right through the weekdays.

In the process, the film has not just enjoyed one of the best Week One of 2016 but is also the third highest grosser of the year already by going past Wazir and Ghayal Once Again.

This is how the highest grossers of 2016 look like:

Airlift – 129 crore
Neerja – 75 crore (still running)
Kapoor & Sons – 46.93 (still running)
Wazir – 42 crore
Ghayal Once Again – 40 crore

In fact, when compared to some of the other key multiplexes successes of the last few months, Kapoor & Sons is doing better than Neerja [35.32 crore] and even Piku [41.42 crore]. Though the lifetime total of Piku [80 crore] is out of reach since another multiplex release of the same genre, Ki & Ka, releases next week, it is a wait and watch situation to see how much closer does it come to Neerja (expected) lifetime [76 crore].

Meanwhile, Himesh Reshammiya’s Teraa Surroor has now accumulated around 14.15 crore in two weeks. The film would close its lifetime at 15 crore and prove to be a plus affair for all involved due to low costs (11 crore) and pre-sales of rights.

In keeping with the film’s vibe, the song High Heel Te Nachche is quite an entertaining one. The peppy beats clubbed with the Punjabi vocals make up for a great party song. This song has been an instant hit with the masses, thanks to its groovy nature and is probably the best track from the album.

Ji Huzoori – Ki And Ka Music Review

Composed and sung by Mithoon, the song Ji Huzoori is a slow-paced sad song. It is quite a signature style from Mithoon who is known for his mellow compositions. The song is expected to be a situational one and hence may appeal more with a context in the film. As an audio track, it is not extraordinary.

Most Wanted Munda – Ki And Ka Music Review

This is another upbeat song from the film. Most Wanted Munda has been sung by Meet Bros Anjjan. The lyrics written by Kumaar are fun as they describe the lead character of the film. While the video of the song is rocking, the song will definitely not enjoy any longevity as an audio number.

This song also has another version called Kabir Most Wanted Munda. It has rap portions by actor Arjun Kapoor. The music remains the same, but the lyrics have been changed.

Foolishq – Ki And Ka Music Review

In spite of a talented composer like Ilaiyaraaja stepping in, the album does not get its best track. Foolishq turns out to be an average number with interesting lyrics from Amitabh Bhattacharya. Sung by Shreya Ghoshal and Armaan Mallik, the song hardly has any recall value with its tune. This is a sheer disappointment from the composer.

Pump It (The Workout Song) – Ki And Ka Music Review

Pump It (The Workout Song) is quite a boring one. The Meet Bros. composition is enthused with a lot of beats but the average singing by Yash Narvekar and meaningless lyrics put you off immediately from this track. Hopefully, the song will have a significance in the film. This is an easily passable track.

The music album of Ki And Ka lacks the energy that we expect from a new-age romance drama. High Heels remains to be the best song from the album while Ji Huzoori and Most Wanted Munda seem average. I am going with a 2.5/5 for the album.

Ever since the beginning of the year, there have been clashes galore where invariably, only one film has benefitted. In rest of the weeks too when two biggies haven’t clashed, at least 3-4 smaller and inconsequential films have arrived in a heap, hence only adding on to the red in Bollywood report card.

Thankfully, that won’t be the case this Friday as only one major Bollywood biggie, Rocky Handsome, is hitting the screens.

It is indeed a great moment for John Abraham as his film is arriving solo. Yes, there is a Hollywood film arriving alongside as well (Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice) but it isn’t in a Fast & Furious, Jurassic Park, Spiderman, Mission Impossible, James Bond or Avengers franchise to make much of a dent.

Coming back to Rocky Handsome, the film should take a decent start on Friday, especially at single screens which would see the first true-blue action entertainer arrival of 2016. Even a 50% start in this segment would help the Nishikant Kamat directed film grow further over the weekend. Moreover, at the multiplexes too, the film would find traction as producers John Abraham and Sunir Kheterpal are giving it a balanced release. Its Bollywood competition would stay on to be Kapoor & Sons though in big cities where it is performing well. The film would also see Paid Previews from Thursday evening onwards.

On its release in 2011, John Abraham and Nishikant Kamat’s Force had an opening day of 5 crore. Now the reunion of this action-jodi should comfortably go past this mark on Friday.

As the release date of Akshay Kumar’s comedy flick Housefull 3 is coming nearby, the makers are leaving no stone unturned to make this film high on its value.

Reportedly, the three lead actors Akshay Kumar, Abhishek Bachchan and Riteish Deshmukh have shot a club song which will be a youth anthem along with 300 background dancers. This song is choreographed by ace choreographer Remo D’souza.

The trailer of the film is expected to release in the 2nd week of April, while the movie will hit the screens on 3rd June. Housefull 3 is produced by Sajid Nadiadwala and directed by duo Farhad-Sajid.

Box Office: Kapoor And Sons Has A Fabulous Wednesday

Kapoor and Sons is refusing to lay low. On Wednesday, it managed to score yet again and brought in 4.35 crore. The fall from Tuesday (4.5 crore) and what is all the more appreciable is the fact that the evening and night shows were heavily impacted due to a thrilling T-20 match between India and Bangladesh. Still, the collections have been rock steady which pretty much convey that the film would have a very good second week as well.

The film has now crossed the 40 crore mark and stands at 40.28 crore. Today, the film is expected to score as well and though footfalls would begin to pick up towards late afternoon and evening shows (due to Holi celebrations in the morning), one can well assume that 45 crore Week One is pretty much on the cards.

This Dharma and Fox film has already managed the second highest week of 2016 in six days flat (after Airlift, which had brought in 83.5 crore) and the way it is going, Neerja lifetime collections (of around 75 crore) could well be in reach.

Confession: Shah Rukh Wants To Play Guru Dutt In His Biopic

Shah Rukh Khan confessed that he should do a biopic on famed yesteryear’s actor–director Guru Dutt and play the cult personality on screen.

In a recent interaction on Twitter, SRK confessed it in a response to a journalist. “Absolutely. I should do it. And as u lovingly say my friend my face is like a beautiful poem…in black & white.” tweeted Shah Rukh Khan.

Shah Rukh Khan is currently shooting for Raees in Mumbai. The film is in its final leaf of shooting. Shah Rukh Khan had also said that he will be playing Holi on the sets of Raees.

Raees is slated to released on Eid 2016.

What’s Good: The thrilling face-off battle between Batman and Superman makes the movie interesting to the core.

What’s Bad: Apart from the battle, the story doesn’t have any hold and impact worth remembering. The direction seemed very ordinary.

Loo Break: Only during interval.

Watch or Not?: Honestly, if you are a Batman or Superman fan, then my verdict is not going to make any difference. But, if you are still reading it, watch it for the sake of that face-off, otherwise, the movie is nothing less than a disappointment.

So, the most anticipated and exciting superhero extravaganza of the year is finally here to entertain us. All that curiosity over the last year with Comic-Con trailers and what not, we now get to experience the thrill of Batman and Superman. Bat-Pod, fights in the dark with bat flash lighting the clouds and humungous power of Superman, all these through the direction of Zack Snyder and the production of the gem Christopher Nolan. Let’s live it together.

Remember, the epic battle between Superman and General Zod from Man of Steel? Now, add Bruce Wayne to it. Bruce witnessed the destruction that Superman and his enemies did to the people of Earth and he also realises the imminent threat of Superman’s gigantic power. If Superman turns evil, he can make the entire mankind go extinct just like that. Bruce Wayne aka Batman has seen a lot of sane minds turning monsters and that’s why he thinks Superman needs to be stopped and be answerable to the people of this planet. So, the gutsy Batman takes on the Blue God.

So, that’s how the face-off begins and fun starts. But, can Batman really match the immortal power of Superman and bring the justice to the people or things will worsen than they already are? Don’t worry, no spoilers here.

But, there are other monstrous forces secretly working. Lex Luthor sees a striking opportunity to use this situation to his advantage and creates a Doomsday weapon which is deadlier than both Batman and Superman’s powers combined.

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Review: Script Analysis

The story pans out well for the movie. It has enough characters to keep you engrossed with the length of the film. The short background for both Batman and Superman are smartly entailed. It is essential to the liking of the characters. The 1st half is intentionally chaotic and builds the base for the next thrilling phase of the story.

Although, the second half is much more interesting and action packed, it doesn’t make the kind of impact you would have hoped. The script is fragmented and only certain scenes are enjoyable while rest seem pretty ordinary.

What’s favourable is that the script greatly manages to achieve the balance of both Batman and Superman’s stand on their heroic deeds. After a while, the plot seems very predictable but Lex Luthor’s character brings surprising element to the storyline.

The face-off between Batman and Superman is breath-taking and will make you applaud for its brilliance. This is where the movie is most entertaining and wow-worthy.

Overall, the script is good but in case of this franchise, good isn’t enough, is it?

Batman v Superman: Dawn of Justice Review: Star Performance

Zack Snyder knows the vitality of a great casting and the choice of each character is noteworthy. When first heard about Ben Affleck as Batman, like most of the people, even I had my doubts whether he can really pull this off, especially after an outstanding performance from Christian Bale in Batman Trilogy. But, Ben Affleck is the heart of the movie and I am happy that I was wrong. He literally owns the role. His screen presence and dedicated effort is evident in the movie. His heavy personality complements the new batman suit which is built to endure Superman. Even as Bruce Wayne, he narrates the story subtly, devoid of any glamour and unnecessary heroism.

Henry Cavill is very sincere and I feel this is the perfect role for him. He carries the weight of Superman’s power, anger, frustration and all the emotions beautifully. Jesse Eisenberg has done a hell of a job as Lex Luthor. I know he can really talk fast as he has done in The Social Network. He looks crazy, stubborn and yields an evil flavour for the story. However, I feel there could have been more to his character than a mere craziness.

What I thoroughly loved is the role of Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman. She is hot, sensuous, funny and vibrant. Even for a small screen time, she is extensively memorable. A beauty with fighting instincts makes the movie utterly legendary. Amy Adams was great but she seemed a bit old and unattractive.

I am a big fan of Zack Snyder. People might love him for 300 but I respect him for making Watchmen and that’s why I was curious what contribution he would do for this project. Honestly, I didn’t like the direction in this context. The storytelling was good but not to the level of his other notable works. Of course, the pressure of making a superhero movie is insane after what Nolan has achieved in this domain but that can’t be the excuse for Zack’s generic attempt for the movie.

On a macro level, the storytelling was convincing and it has its glorious moments. The face-off between Batman and Superman is remarkable and accomplishes the intention of making this movie. The cleverness of Batman to face the immortal, his tricks to expose Superman’s weakness are brilliantly directed. This battle will be remembered for a long time to come. But, that’s it, only some fractions are enjoyable. The direction lacked a rhythm and spontaneity.

Another thing I would complain is about the screen time for Wonder Woman. It was such an important and thrilling role but she got way too lesser a time in the story. Zack should have been smarter enough to do that instead of focusing more on Amy Adams’ role.

Zack’s signature shots of gradual camera getting closer to the actors and then panning out to get a wider display is remarkable, especially during the background story of both Batman and Superman and towards the end.

When we talk about Hans Zimmer’s music, we know how extraordinary and meticulous it is. Zimmer and Junkie XL gave a justified score for this one but the music is really not of the level we had witnessed in Batman Trilogy and Interstellar. It’s not bad but not impactful as well.

Batman vs Superman is a thrilling tale of a rivalry between the two superheroes, trapped in justifying their heroic deeds. Their face-off battle is exceptional with a justified storyline but lacks a powerful impact. I hate to say this but I was disappointed with the movie. My rating: 2.5/5
