Actress Sigourney Weaver says she can’t wait to get back into space as Alien Hunter Ellen Ripley in Ridley Scott’s next.
A new sequel to Scott’s cult 1979 movie has been in the works for years, and now Weaver has an update for fans.
The film is now a go with “Elysium” director Neill Blomkamp as director, but it won’t start shooting until after Scott’s “Prometheus” sequel is released, and he has revisited his “Alien” franchise with new film “Alien: Covenant”, which is set to hit theatres in August, 2017, reported Contactmusic.
“Ridley asked Neill not to make our Alien until after Prometheus 2,” Weaver said.
“He (Ridley Scott) wanted his movie to shoot and be released first. But it’s (new Alien film) an amazing script, and Neill and I are really excited about doing it.
“We’re doing other things until we can get going on that. I’d be really surprised if we didn’t do it, because it’s such a great script, and we love working together. So, it’s just going to take a little bit longer to get out to you, but it’ll be worth the wait.”
Ridley Scott, who is also helping to develop another sequel to one of his cult movies, “Blade Runner”, will be producing Blomkamp’s Alien film after directing “Covenant”.
